Kalimba Magic Table at the Peace Fair (by Mark Holdaway, Tucson/Arizona)

Reid Park Bandshell, Saturday Feb 24 10am - 5pm

Kalimba Magic is a business dedicated to spreading the joy of the kalimba through the world. We don’t yet have a non-profit arm of Kalimba Magic, but that is coming.

We won’t be selling kalimbas, CD’s or books at the Kalimba Magic table, we’ll be practicing our non-profit educational activities. There are two directions the non-profit will go: Music Therapy, and Music in the Schools.

I’ll be presenting a research poster at a Music Therapy conference in March, and the Peace Fair will be a perfect place to bring it out for show.

But perhaps a more important part of the Kalimba Magic non-profit is the initiative to get the kalimbas into the hands of students, especially students with African ancestry. The kalimba is an African instrument, part of the rich cultural heritage that was shattered when Africans were forcibly relocated to America through the slave trade. But in some cultures in Africa, the kalimba is also an instrument that helps us to connect with our ancestors. The kalimba can be a central reconnecting point with African art and culture as well as African ancestry. Thats the vision I would like to share with you.

Anyway, if you are out visiting at the Peace Fair, stop by our table, read the poster, plink a few notes….
and talk with us about the Kalimba as a Personal Instrument of Peace!
